In my last update, I shared the exciting news that the Hospital Capacity Management Consortium (HCMC) is now officially a Professional Membership Group (PMG) within the American Hospital Association. This recognition gives us a national platform to elevate the discipline of capacity management and since then, we have been moving full speed ahead.
From Vision to Strategy
Over the past several months, our Advisory Board and members have collaborated to build HCMC’s first strategic plan. This plan reflects our shared commitment to advancing the science, practice and professional identity of capacity management.
Our strategy is grounded in three pillars:
- Thought Leadership – advancing research, publications and education that shape how health systems approach flow, access, and operations.
- Professional Growth – offering training, networking, and leadership opportunities that strengthen the capacity management workforce.
- Impact on Health Care Delivery – advocating for and driving innovations that improve patient access, quality, efficiency, and sustainability.
This plan is more than words on paper—it’s our roadmap for defining and elevating capacity management as a recognized and influential discipline.

Our strategic plan will come to life through the work of our committees and volunteers. We are now inviting members to get involved in shaping the next chapter of HCMC.
In addition, we are accepting applications for Advisory Board positions, including the role of President-Elect. These roles offer a chance to influence national strategy, represent our growing profession, and help build the future of capacity management.
