Description

Hospital capacity and patient flow are critical challenges facing healthcare systems today. This webinar explores how integrating virtual nursing models can significantly enhance hospital throughput, leading to improved efficiency, reduced length of stay (LOS), and better patient outcomes.

Learning Objectives

  • Analyze the critical touchpoints in the patient journey where virtual nursing intervention can effectively reduce delays and bottlenecks.
  • Describe at least three non-bedside tasks a virtual nurse can effectively manage to increase bedside nurse time for direct patient care.
  • Identify key metrics (e.g., Length of Stay, discharge time) used to measure the successful impact of virtual nursing on overall hospital throughput.

Speaker:

Kelley Hamby, RN, MSN, MBA System Chief Nursing Officer

Kelley Hamby is Baptist Health's first chief nursing officer covering the entire system, which includes 12 hospitals and more than 250 points of access. Hamby leads Baptist Health workforce strategy, standards, and improving quality measures for nursing across the system. Hamby began her career with Baptist Health in 1990 as a unit coordinator. In 1994, she completed the registered nurse program at Baptist Health College Little Rock and began her career as an RN at Baptist Health Medical Center-Little Rock. At BHMC-Little Rock, she advanced to assistant vice president of patient care where she oversaw the Perioperative services at the flagship campus, BHMC-Little Rock, with over 40 operating rooms and 23,000 surgical cases. Under her leadership cases increased by 12% while decreasing cost by 5%. Hamby most recently served as the chief nursing officer for Baptist Health Medical Center-North Little Rock prior to being named to oversee the entire system.

In 2023 and 2024 Hamby helped to lead implementation of AI technologists that have decreased LOS and improved operating efficiency across several locations. Hamby’s strong analytical skills and ability to develop strong working relationships are well-suited for her leadership role. Hamby received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and Master of Science in Nursing from Western Governors University. Hamby is active in the community serving through the Arkansas Hospital Association, Arkansas Nurses Association, and American Organization for Nursing Leadership.

I was born and raised in Little Rock, where I have spent my entire life. As the youngest and only daughter among my three siblings, this may provide some insight into my personality. Kelley is married to Chuck, and together we have two children, Edie and Matthew. Two years ago, she was also blessed with a delightful granddaughter, Charlie Kate. Our family attends East End Missionary Baptist Church located in Hensley. In addition to my professional commitments, I am active in the community, serving as a board member for Shepherd's Hope Health Center, previously on the board of the Arkansas Heart Association, and has been a member of the Workforce Committee for the Arkansas Hospital Association. Furthermore, I am affiliated with the Arkansas Nurses Association, the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL), the Arkansas Organization of Nursing Leaders (ArONL), and the Arkansas Hospital Association (AHA).
